Jeremy Lin grew up in Palo Alto, California. He spent much of his time playing basketball for fun there. In those days, he was also a devoted(忠诚的) fan of the Golden State Warriors, the local NBA team.

   During his teenage years, Lin was captain of the Palo Alto High School basketball team. He led the team to a state championship(冠*). When he entered the college, however, he wasn’t offered any sports scholarships(奖学金). Luckily, after he was allowed to study in Harvard, he was offered a place on its college basketball team.

   During Lin’s time at Harvard, his basketball career(生涯) took off. He scored 1,482 points, one of the highest scores in Ivy League history. When Lin left, no NBA teams offered him a contract(合同),but he was invited to play in the NBA Summer League. There, Lin played so well that he drew the attention of the Golden State Warriors, who offered him a contract. Lin accepted it immediately. For him, playing basketball for his favourite NBA team was a dream.

   During his first season with the Golden State Warriors, Lin experienced both highs and lows. But throughout it all, Lin was always very popular with the Warriors’ fans. They cheered wildly for him at games. Many of the fans are Asian Americans, like Jeremy, and they remember his wonderful high school basketball days. For them, he’s a hometown boy who, as a result of his natural ability and hard work, has made it to the NBA.
