“Shanzhai”, a Chinese word, which means “copying”, is top of the list. It’s true that “Shanzhai” is everywhere. It refers to all kinds of homemade e are “Shanzhai” movies, songs, and TV programs. Some people even tried to prepare for a “shanzhai” Spring Festival gala last year. “Shanzhai” is popular because it provides the ordinary people a chance to take part in many activities. Meanwhile, it brings about a risk of breaking copyright laws.

The second hottest word is an ancient Chinese character “囧”. It is pronounced “jiong”. It used to mean “light shining through a window”. Now young Chinese use it to express embarrassment, or a bad mood. Look at the character, doesn't it look like a disappointed face?

The newly intvented Chinese Charater “槑” is the fourth hottest. Pronounced “méi”, the word is a different form of the word “梅”. But it also looks like a double version of the character “呆”, which means stupid. So young people nowadays have borrowed it to mean “very silly or very stupid”.

What will be the hottest words of 2009 in China then? I guess “ financial crisis” and “H1N1 flu” will be on the list. Here are the reasons. “ financial crisis” brought China some serious problems and one of them is that many people lost their jobs. They say “I lost my job because of the financial crisis! ” Also,we can often hear a terrible disease called “H1N1 Flu”, it has caused hundreds of death. “ Many pigs are ill, so I don’t buy pork now” people say so.

These two words are often heard now. But things are always changing, who knows what will be the hottest? Let’s wait and see.
