    Women walk in space

There will soon be a “giant leap” for womankind in space. If all goes according to plan, two female NASA astronauts will take a spacewalk on March 29. This will be the first all-female spacewalk in history.

Pilot Anne McClain, A US Army major(陆*少校), and electrical engineer Christina Koch will walk outside the International Space Station(ISS). Their mission is to replace batteries that were installed on the ISS last summer. NASA estimates (估计) that their walk will last about seven hours.

Working in space can be quite dangerous. It is typically believed that male astronauts are more suited to space missions. Women are more likely to work at ground control or do research.

According to NASA, fewer than 11 percent of the more than 500 people who have been into space have been female. During the 213 spacewalks that have taken place at the ISS since 1998. the astronaut teams doing the walks have either been all-male or male-female.

McClain and Koch’s spacewalk is definitely a big step for women. "It resonates(产生共鸣) with women around the agency that we are at this point, " NASA spokeswoman Stephanie Schierholz told the Guardian.

More women around the world are becoming astronauts. Women have certain advantages when it comes to working in space. They tend to be smaller, which means they take up less room and need less oxygen and food than men, Forbes said.

Also, woman are less likely to have heart attacks and are less sensitive to heat, cold, pain and noise. Studies have also shown that women deal with loneliness better than men, Forbes said.

Female astronauts making milestones(里程碑)

Valentina Tereshkova from the Soviet Union became the first woman to go into space in 1963——just two years after the first man.

In 1984, Svetlana Savitskaya from the Soviet Union was the first woman to walk in space

Liu Yang became the first female astronaut from China to go into space in 2012.

根据“There will soon …all-female spacewalk in history.”

根据“fewer than 11 percent of the more than 500 people who have been into space have been female”可知,在进过太空的500多人中,少于11%的人是女*,推算一下能得出,大概只有55人是女*。故选B。

根据“Women have certain advantages… than men, Forbes said.”
