Jonathon White’s house in Virginia is full of presents and food. Clothes and toys surround him. Bags of potatoes line the walls. But these things are not for him. Jonathon gives them all away.

Many people celebrate Christmas by giving gifts to family and friends. But Jonathon spreads holiday cheer to people he has never met.

When Jonathon was in fourth grade, his class learned about the Appalachian region (地区) of Virginia. Jonathon was surprised to learn that a lot of the kids in that part of the state don’t have many toys or clothes. Jonathon told his Dad that he wanted to donate (捐赠) some of his own toys and clothes to kids in Appalachian.

Over the next few weeks, Jonathon asked other people for donations. Neighbors, friends, and kids from Jonathon’s school dropped off toys and clothes on his doorstep. Every day, new presents appeared. Soon there was enough to fill two huge trucks!

Jonathon and his Dad drove to the Appalachian Mountains and gave away all the presents. Their goal had been to help five needy families. They had enough to help more than 100 families! Over the past few years, Jonathon’s gifts for Appalachian Project has donated thousands of boxes filled with toys, books, clothes, and food. Jonathon and his Dad packed all of them. They visited a different part of the Appalachian region each year. Jonathon says the best part of it is when kids see the toys. “All the faces light up with excitement.”

Each year, after giving away the gifts, Jonathon and his Dad return home to celebrate their holiday together. They are tired but happy. A few months later, Jonathon will start collecting donations again. He is already thinking about what his Christmas visit will bring to others next year.
