    Rio de Janeiro(里约热内卢) has won the race to host the 2016 Olympic Game, beating Madrid in the final round of voting(投票)

    The Olympic Games will be held in South America for the first time.

    Nearly 50,000 people took part in the celebration when the announcement(宣布) was made by the IOC President Jacques Rogge in Denmark on October 3, 2009.

    Brazilian President Lula said, “All those people who thought we had no ability to govern(管理) this country will now learn that we can host the Olympics. The Brazilian people are good and generous. And the country is great. The world has recognized that the time has come for Brazil.”

    Denise Lewis is a famous athlete. She won a gold medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. She said giving it to Rio was the right decision. In the final round of voting, Rio got 66 vote, compared to 32 for Madrid.
