English, as a global language, plays a vital role in our daily lives. While many students are effective speakers, they find it challenging to write well in English. For instance, they have difficulty in using English vocabulary and grammar correctly and accurately, creating a clear structure for their writing and getting their ideas or opinions across.
Several factors contribute to their problems. To start with, they fail to attach significance to writing, believing that learning English is all about how to become fluent and confident speakers. Secondly, there is a lack of variety in their writing training, which puts them off writing. Furthermore, giving up easily is another reason for their failure.
To my mind, some measures can be taken to improve writing skills. For one thing, we should expose ourselves to more authentic reading materials, where we can learn the correct use of vocabulary and grammar. For another, we should practise more. As the saying goes, practice makes perfect.
