I met Wayde petersen earlier this month in a football club in Shepparton. We were both waiting to see a football match, since it was late arriving, we had a talk. He was a young man with an unusual way of speaking. talk soon moved to country life.

     Two weeks later, I drove up to the family farm, half-an-hour drive from Sheppatlon.

    Wayde showed me the dairy, (奶牛场) where he began his day at about 6:30 am. He said it was important that the cows were relaxed, which meant they could not listen to loud music while he was milking.

    Cows are very nervous animals, and many farmers have played slow music to keep their cows calm. It’s reported that playing some music to cows leads to better growth and more milk production. So a lot of farmers keep a radio on in the barn (畜舍) to keep them happy.

Too many people think cows like country music. This couldn’t be more wrong. Cows don’t go for such things as country music. Cows prefer classical music to rock and roll. Thanks to some researchers in Britain, farmers now know how many beats (节拍) per minute cows prefer.

The best speed of the music seems to be under 100 beats per minute. Cows listening to  music like Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony produced about 3.5% more milk a day than those listening to faster music.
